Union Jack

Yes, I'll admit it: I'm a stupid American and had no idea the British flag "evolved." I'll also admit I totally want to follow in Rose Tyler's fashion footsteps and own a Union Jack t-shirt. That would just be sooo cool, and I'd be showing my love for all things UK.

Yes, the British flag evolved, just like your own. However, it's only called the Union Jack when it's flown at sea: otherwise it should be referred to as the Union Falg.

Makes sense, of course, just not something I've ever sat around and pondered. But I'm going to protest what it's called when. If the folks at Doctor Who can call it Union Jack even when it's not being flown at sea then anyone can. Perhaps the different name for at sea is one of those older traditions that's kinda been left behind? I don't know about that, but it sounds like a good justification for the fact that Union Jack just sounds cooler to me.
